Skindred

Skindred in 013, Tilburg, was awesome!
Deadly Circus Fire was the support act.

It was an amazing gig, with lots of energy and good music!

Autumn

Nelson is our (well, actually it's our neighbor's) lovely garden-cat! It's still autumn, so there are still enough leaves left to play with in our garden. Oh, I do love the autumn!

Twee violen en een bas

While my dad and younger brother went to the Vans Warped Tour, because my younger brother won tickets- the lucky bastard :) , I went to a lecture with my mom about the conflicts between the Netherlands and Germany and the plans for the annexation after the wars. This might sound very boring, but it was quite okay, I guess.
After this lecture, there would be a performance from "twee violen en een bas" (two violins and a bass). They would celebrate and honor twenty years of the Dutch royal family.
Now, just to be clear, I'm not a fan of our Royal house (or monarchy in general). I wasn't quite keen on the idea of going to a performance all about our new king, but we did go because we heard that it wasn't that bad at all. (sorry for the quality of the pictures!)

It turned out to be a very nice show! It wasn't all about "honoring the king with songs", more about the history of our kings (and how foolish they sometimes were and how weird our country actually is). And the music was actually nice! :)
My mom bought two CD's afterwards. Yes, we bought classical music. Aren't we smart and part of "the elite" (as my Dutch teacher would say), now?
I had a lovely day and it became even better when we went to the supermarket afterwards and bought sushi. A nice film and my favorite food: you don't hear me complaining!

You can by the CD's here (see link below):

13 lies of the modern music industry

You can find the original post here: http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/permalink/2013/09/25/lies

"It was the future we all wanted so desperately to come true…"

Lie #1: Great music will naturally find its audience.

The Lie: The greatest music and artists will eventually connect with their audiences, naturally, thanks to a perfectly-lubricated, social, and borderless internet.
“Our kids are going to watch exactly what they want to watch, not necessarily what’s marketed to them,” then Topspin CEO Ian Rogers said as recently as 2010, while constantly underscoring that “quality is hyperefficient.”
The Truth: Just like the analog old days, most great music gets left behind and wallows in obscurity if not substantially backed or otherwise supported financially.  In fact, the biggest songs on the planet are often those blasted the loudest on the biggest platforms – and oftentimes, granted the most money from major labels (ie, Katy Perry, Pitbull, Flo Rida, etc.)

Smalltown boy

The song is Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat. It was a major hit in Europe in 1984, and #1 on the US Dance chart. Jimmy Somerville was the singer and yes, that really is him.
